Welcome to Early Years at Lanivet - Duckling Class

We believe that all children should expect to achieve their full potential and that their opportunities are limitless.

We believe children learn best through meaningful play, exploration and positive relationships. We create a supportive environment where curiosity is encouraged, individuality is celebrated and every child is empowered to become a confident, independent learner.

At Lanivet Community Primary School, we believe every child is unique, capable and full of potential. Our Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provides a nurturing, stimulating and inspiring environment where children feel safe, valued and excited to learn.

We recognise that a child's first experiences of school lay the foundations for their future learning and development. Through a carefully planned balance of child-initiated play, meaningful experiences and adult-led teaching, we support children to become confident, resilient and independent learners.

Our EYFS curriculum is designed around our three golden threads: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind and Healthy Planet. These threads are woven throughout our provision, encouraging children to develop positive relationships, an understanding of themselves and others, a love of learning and a growing awareness of the world around them.

We place great importance on developing children's communication, language, personal and social skills alongside their early reading, writing and mathematical understanding. Our curriculum builds on children's interests, prior experiences and natural curiosity, creating exciting opportunities to explore, investigate and discover.

At Lanivet, we believe learning should be meaningful, engaging and joyful. We encourage children to ask questions, solve problems, take risks and build confidence through new experiences. Our school values of Respect, Empathy, Perseverance, Resilience and Cooperation are at the heart of everything we do and help children develop the attitudes and skills needed to flourish both in school and beyond.

We celebrate every child's achievements and work closely with families to ensure children feel happy, supported and ready to reach their full potential. Together, we create a strong foundation for lifelong learning, enabling children to leave EYFS as confident, curious and capable learners who are proud to be part of the Lanivet community.

Our Learning Environment
At Lanivet Community Primary School, we provide a welcoming, stimulating and inclusive learning environment where children feel safe, valued and inspired to explore. Our carefully designed indoor and outdoor spaces encourage curiosity, independence and creativity, offering rich opportunities for children to investigate, collaborate and develop their skills through play and purposeful learning experiences.

 The EYFS Curriculum
Our EYFS curriculum is built around the seven areas of learning and is enriched by our school's golden threads: Healthy Body, Healthy Mind and Healthy Planet. We recognise that every child is unique and design learning experiences that build upon children's interests, prior knowledge and individual needs. Through meaningful opportunities to explore, discover and challenge themselves, children develop the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed for lifelong learning.

Learning Through Play
Play is at the heart of learning in the Early Years. We believe children learn best when they are actively engaged, curious and motivated to explore the world around them. Through a balance of child-initiated play and carefully planned adult-led experiences, children develop confidence, resilience, communication skills and a love of learning while deepening their understanding across all areas of the curriculum.

Meet the Reception Team

At Lanivet Community Primary School, we are proud of the dedicated team who work closely together to provide a nurturing, stimulating and supportive environment for every child.

Miss Haworth, our Reception Teacher, leads the EYFS provision and is passionate about creating meaningful learning experiences that inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning. She works closely with children and families to ensure every child feels valued, supported and confident as they begin their school journey.

A particular strength of our provision is that Mrs Drake, our SENDCo, teaches in Reception every Friday. This regular involvement within the classroom is invaluable in helping us get to know children well, identify any emerging needs early and work closely with families to provide support where needed.

Our EYFS team is a caring and experienced one, who support children's learning, wellbeing and development throughout the day. Together, we build positive relationships with every child, helping them to feel safe, happy and ready to thrive.

We believe that strong partnerships between home and school are essential, and we are always available to offer support, celebrate achievements and work together to ensure the very best outcomes for your child.

As well as the Reception team, children are supported by a range of caring adults across the school, including our SEND team, pastoral staff, lunchtime supervisors and school leadership team. We work together to ensure every child feels safe, included and able to flourish both academically and

Our Learning Plans

An overview of how the curriculum subjects are covered through our termly topics can be found below. In Reception, learning is planned through the EYFS curriculum. Children complete the Reception Baseline Assessment during their first two weeks of school and are also assessed using WellComm to support the early identification of speech, language and communication needs. Progress is measured against the Early Learning Goals throughout the year.

Starting School

Starting school is an exciting milestone, and at Lanivet we work closely with families to ensure every child feels happy, safe and confident as they begin their school journey. We are committed to making the transition into school a positive experience and look forward to welcoming your child to the Lanivet family.
