Mr Tim Gray

Headteacher

I joined Lanivet in September 2023 and as well as being the Headteacher I am the Designated Safeguarding Lead. I have worked in education for over 20 years and as a headteacher for 10 years. Throughout my career I have been dedicated to ensuring every child has access to a wide range of exciting and engaging educational opportunities that ignite a lifelong love for learning. I am passionate about making learning accessible for all and providing a school environment that nurtures children and develops a strong sense of belonging.

Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, particularly sharing a good book or film with my children and going for dog walks in the beautiful Cornish countryside. I also love a challenge and recently I started learning to the play the drums – a great way to unwind at the end of the day!

Mrs Michelle Doherty

Assistant Headteacher and Year 6 Teacher

Mrs Doherty has taught at Lanivet School since September 2003. She is the Assistant Headteacher and teaches Year 5. Mrs Doherty has a passion for maths and leads the subject in the school. Mrs Doherty is one of Lanivet’s designated safeguarding officers.

I started teaching at Lanivet in 2003. It was my first teaching job and, due to the wonderful children, staff and village community, I have never wanted to teach anywhere else. I thoroughly enjoy teaching all the curriculum and I have a real passion for teaching maths as I love those moments when children grasp a new concept or method.

Outside of school, I enjoy spending time with my family, exploring new places and going on long woodland walks.

I love how reading allows you to escape into magical, imaginary worlds. I enjoy reading many different genres especially fantasy, adventures and mysteries as they keep you in suspense, wanting to read more.

Mrs Faye Drake

SENDCo, Year 1 & EYFS Teacher / Year 4 Teacher

I have been a teacher at Lanivet since 2020 and love embracing the diversity that school life brings. As a teacher, I am passionate about sharing my enthusiasm for learning through creative, cross-curricular lessons that spark curiosity, excitement, and discovery about the world around us. I work 2 days a week in Year 4 alongside Mrs Liddicoat and 1 day a week in EYFS and Year 1 alongside Miss Haworth.

In my role as SENDCo, I am dedicated to supporting every child’s unique needs and ensuring that all children feel included, valued, and able to thrive. Creating a safe, supportive, and happy environment is at the heart of everything I do, both in my classroom and across the school.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy exploring new destinations with my family and making special memories together.

Mrs Chloe Kinch

Year 5 Teacher

I qualified as a teacher in 2006 and have spent my career as both secondary and primary teacher. With a lifelong love for science and the living world, I enjoy sparking curiosity and encouraging hands-on learning whenever I can.

My favourite book is The BFG by Roald Dahl. As a child I dreamt of being Sophie and befriending the BFG, I desperately wanted a shelf full of dreams to marvel at. I’ve always loved the way books provide a chance to see life through a different set of eyes. I find authors endlessly inspiring for their ability to create places, characters, and adventures that stay with you long after the last page is turned.

Outside of school, I’m married and a proud mum to three teenage boys, which means our house is very lively, loud, and full of snacks. As a family, we love heading to the beach to explore, walk, and enjoy the fresh sea air, it’s one of the few places we can all agree on!

Mrs Stacey Liddicoat

Year 4 Teacher

I joined the team at Lanivet in 2018, after teaching at another local primary school for 9 years. Fostering a love of learning and ensuring all the children in my class are happy at school are my main aims as a teacher. I enjoy teaching in a cross curricular way to allow children to make links and deepen their understanding of our topics. When I’m not at school, I spend lots of time exploring Cornwall with my family; I especially enjoy going to the beach or cycling along the Camel Trail.

For me, reading is one of my favourite ways to relax. Even now as an adult, some of my favourite books are the Harry Potter stories by JK Rowling; I love getting lost in their magical adventures and comparing their school days to ours!

Ms Heidi Bowden

Year 3 Teacher

I joined the team at Lanivet in 2020, after teaching at another local primary school for 5 years. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I feel very fortunate to work with such enthusiastic learners each day.
I believe that every child has unique strengths, and my goal is to create a supportive, engaging, and positive learning environment where pupils feel encouraged to explore, ask questions, and develop confidence in their abilities. I enjoy making lessons meaningful and enjoyable, helping children not only to succeed academically but also to grow as kind, thoughtful individuals.

When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my own children. We spend lots of time outdoors exploring nature and going on coastal walks. At home, we especially love snuggling up with a good book. Some of our family favourites include Charlotte’s Web by E. B. White – a timeless story about friendship, kindness, and courage – and The BFG by Roald Dahl, which is full of imagination, humour, and adventure that children love. We enjoy sharing the books we’ve read and recommending them to others, so that more families can join in the excitement of discovering new adventures through reading.

Miss Emily Howard

Year 2 & Year 1 Teacher

I joined Lanivet School as a teacher in 2022, after completing a placement here while training, as well as a maternity cover. I have a real passion for ensuring that school is a safe, caring and supportive environment for all children. I enjoy teaching all subjects but especially Music and PE.

When I am not at school, I love to take my dog for a walk, playing with my daughter and exploring new places. We love to go to Heligan Gardens and the coastal paths, making the most of the beautiful Cornish landscape. I also love listening to music, especially while travelling in the car and cooking tea.

Miss Samantha Haworth

Year 1 & EYFS Teacher

I joined the team at Lanivet in 2019, after teaching at two other local primary schools. I have had the pleasure of growing up in the village and attended Lanivet Primary myself. I thoroughly enjoyed my time as a child and have many fond memories. These fond memories are the reason I became a teacher, I looked back at my teachers, and I realised the impact they had on my learning journey. I love to create a happy, safe and fun environment where children grow, are happy and enjoy learning. When I’m not at school, I spend my time exploring Cornwall with my two spaniels, enjoying my family and friend time.

Reading to me is about getting lost in another world. I love reading a good page turner and enjoying a book so much you don’t want to put it down. Two of my all-time favourites are James and the Giant Peach and George’s Marvellous Medicine and I also love the author, Sophie Kinsella.

Miss Bryony Coates

Teacher

Lanivet school gave me the foundations that started my teacher training, and I was lucky enough to join the team in 2016 as a teacher. In my classroom, I love to teach through songs, actions and pictures to help children remember those challenging facts, methods and terminology. We love to start our day with a smile and leave a sparkle wherever we go. I always look forward to inspiring little people who have dreams that can turn into adults with vision.

When I am not at school, I love coaching and playing netball with my netball team. My happy place is at the beach with my family. I love walking with sand beneath my toes and the sea breeze in my face.

For me, reading takes you on an incredible journey and I love getting lost in a good book. My favourite books to read to children are: We're Going on a Bear Hunt, as my grandmas used to read it to me at every bedtime and any book by Stewart Foster as they help children understand a range of emotions, feelings, and makes them feel like they are not alone.
